After almost two decades of work as an affiliated medical college, earlier of Shivaji university, Kolhapur and later of Maharashtra University of health Sciences, Nashik, based on excellent and constant academic performance, a very strong and aesthetic infrastructural system, efficient and transparent governance and distinct potential for future progress, the department of Secondary and Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government Of India,on the recommendations of University of Grant Commission under section 3 of UGC act of 1956, vide its Notification No. F.9-26/2004-U-3 dated 1st September 2005, has accorded the Deemed status to the D. Y. Patil University, Kolhapur.

There is an understanding and agreement between the DYP Worldwide Ltd. and D. Y. Patil University, Kolhapur to academically support Padmashree Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College in Mauritius. This will help the students for exchange of academic material and faculty from India. The students, with their consent, will be visiting and studying in D. Y. Patil University in India for one year, during three years of curriculum, according to their preferences of university. During their studies in India, students will get exposure to the clinical expertise and surgical experience in the best hospitals managed by D. Y. Patil University.
